Traverse City, At the Table
From intimate farm-to-table sanctuaries to the raw bar of the season—the tables I’m booking now so you aren’t locked out in July.
The word is officially out. Between Eater naming us a global destination and Midwest Living confirming what we already knew, the Traverse City food scene is having a “moment.”
But here is the reality: if you’re asking for a table on a Wednesday, you’re already too late. In this corner of the world, summer is a limited resource. To live it intentionally, you have to be the architect of it now. Booking a reservation in March isn’t just about logistics; it’s a hit of dopamine—a promise to your future self that a sunset, a chilled glass of whatever you love, and a perfect plate are waiting for you.
Here is where I am putting my name down for the season. Book now, thank me later.
The Intentional Table | The Cook’s House
This is my sanctuary for a slow, reflective dinner. It’s an intimate, quiet homage to our Northern Michigan roots. If I could, I would secure a table for four—usually for a long overdue catch-up with close friends—every other Friday for the rest of the year.
The New Vanguard | Umbo
This raw bar is the "be and be seen" spot of 2026. It’s fresh, it’s architectural, and it’s exactly what the downtown scene needed. Get to know the team now; you’ll want to be the person who can snag a seat at the bar when the house is full.
The Northport Ritual | Faro
After years of raising my boys exploring the Northport woods, this place feels like a homecoming. You won't get a Friday table here without a plan, and the plan is everything.
The Ritual: Book early, then walk over to Music in the Park. Grab your dessert to go and eat it under the stars while the music carries over the water.
The Sunset Standard | The Boathouse
Ask for the patio at sunset. It’s a locals’ favorite for a reason—the light hitting the bay is the best decor in the house. It feels like a Slim Aarons photograph come to life.
Sanctuary | Lil Bo’s
Some nights, I just need an olive burger and a late-night vibe. This women-owned haunt is my “no-reservation-needed” lifesaver. It’s unpretentious, authentic, and soulful. Sunday Karaoke and Tuesday Trivia are the local staples you didn’t know you needed.
The Community Hub | Modern Bird
The fried chicken and buttery rolls are a local religion. It’s where I go when I want to feel the hum and energy of this community. It’s bustling, bright, and always worth the wait.
The Family Field Trip | Farm Club
You’re looking at the fields where your food was grown while you eat. It’s the ultimate spot for a Sunday brunch with the kids where they can actually run around while you enjoy a moment of peace.
The French Fix | La Becasse
When I need a bit of European soul, I see Guillaume. It’s essential, classic, and requires a Resy reservation at least twice a summer. It’s the closest thing to the French countryside you’ll find in the 231 area code.
The Migration Tip
When it feels like there is nowhere left in the world to eat and every reservation in town is booked solid, head to Modes. You can usually sneak a seat at the bar, and you will never be disappointed. It’s a meat-heavy classic, but the vegetarian options are surprisingly thoughtful and will keep you very happy.
Kindly,
Marissa
